Gadget makers gamble big when they go live on TV or streaming apps, but appearing on live broadcast channels, like QVC, can come with great rewards. In this episode of In The Making, Ashley Carman chats with gadget creators to learn how live shopping has become one of the most lucrative, and risky, retail options.

why gadget makers sell on qvc
Have you ever bought anything through live shopping?
I have never :D as soon as I see live shopping on TV I skip the channel as fast as I can
I buy apple products after watching The Verge.

No and I won't
No, I don't trust the sales men
Wear mask
So Umbridge joined Babson before Hogwarts
Why doesn't this video have "In The Making" in its title? I almost didn't find this episode.
Amazing material, guys. Keep it up! ❤️❤️❤️
Wait, QVC still exists?
Very interesting video!
"Before Buying The Product" First You Need A Table Don't Keep In MidAir
Screw in with confidence
Make sure your phone is in short circuit.
I get it, Ashley's signature is walking while introducing.
Know what this video could use? Some more ad breaks. Because, six ads in twelve minutes isn’t enough.
good one!!
I mean, isn't the same with youtube tech reviews? Sometimes I got a feeling that I am watching a long commercial
How ironic to be getting more ads on this video! *sigh*
Just screw in with confidence
Is he using batik??
Really love this type of videos, can't wait for more!
Superb! These are really engaging contents!
I'm just excited there's a new video with Ashley Carman, I love when she stars in videos
Ashley coming back with a home run. So glad to see this kind of videos again here.
I wonder who shop on these live shopping bullshit.I hate it.
Here for the Ashley content!
Something was weird about this host. Almost as if she was nervous. Had this almost robotic style to her.
we still haven't forgotten
Finally! We need more Ashley videos!
"And there's models going jee-dahlree-dee." 😃 This guy is kind of adorable. I don't want a sleep robot but I'd cuddle him any night! 😁😄
thats a stupid and misleading explanation how retail and its prices work. "just mark it up instead of giving customers the real price" why dont you work for google then ashley? just cut the middle man 🤷♂️
Loved to see Ashley again in a vid 😊
Ashley holding it down with the QUALITY content. Seriously this is great. Whatever she gets tasked with gets the story it deserves.
verge please hire this person! he is damn cool! like diter
missed Ashley Carman.
How can you make a video about live shopping and not talk about China?
great video ashley and the team! apple has perfected this for its gadgets with its public keynotes
Kitty Forman works at Babson college?
I don't understand how anyone could think this is a morally good thing? You're encouraging impulse buys. That's exploitative, but also bad from a capitalist perspective. Capitalism is supposed to give everyone the best product for them, at the best quality for their money. This tries to dodge that by hyping and driving up consumers emotions. How many people will buy things like this and regret it afterwards? or buy an inferior product?
Do people still watch tv?
Fascinating.
Great job. Good to see Ashley back again!
Good to see Ashley back again on the channel. Talking about the topic of the video; such advertising doesn't justify the quality of a product. I think that Teleshopping is almost similar to gambling (You win if the product works satisfactorily or you lose if that product doesn't work as per expectations)
Missed seeing Ashley's take. Thank you The Verge for bringin her a SEASON 2 woohoo!
Love the modern themed blue batik the guy wore...
Idk if these guys have heard of Nvidia 30 series.
We’ve missed you, Ashley. Hope we’ll see more videos coming from you soon :)
QVC coming to a ROlabel near you
Who else lives outside US and has heard this way if selling goods for the first time?
3:33 super awkward
They choose shopping channel cause their products are inferior in quality, made of cheap plastic , less power ect . Then people who do not use internet buy it . Mostly older folks . They are hyenas...
@L.V. Legit lolololoolol mad grandpa xd
Theyre shills
Stupid. They sell legit name brand stuff, and demoed live for you. I've bought Sonos and JBL Pulse 3 speakers, a washable room rug that I washed in the washing machine at least 8 times a year for the last 2 years. Also, they are honest when they say they have limited quantity or sold put because, I've actually missed orders.
Hah! Maybe I should watch some of these sell channels next time I watch tv 🤞. by the way, am just happy to see Ashley again
I never knew these TVSN channels still exist. Seems like a way to sell a product at full non-discounted price to tech-averse elderly people who don’t use Amazon.
Who watches tv shopping channels? Thought these were only watched by middle aged to elderly women. Not a growing market.
And 12 yrs old me
This very much feels like an ad to attract a younger audiences. You get to see the product! You're helping small, independent gadget makers! It's live, so you can trust it! So I'd say both of our opinions on shopping channels are right, they're only watched/used by older people, and the channels wants to diversify to a younger audience
It's a huge and growing category in China. I hope it doesn't get anymore popular here in America.
Great video, Ashley and team! I never quite understood televised shopping networks. It always seems gimmicky and cheap to me. Clearly there's a market and target demographic for it so it's cool to learn a bit about the BTS.
This video was great. Super interesting interviews and brought a new perspective to something I have never really taken the time to think about. Thanks Ashley!
Me too!
Such programs just try to sell you junk, things that can be yours for a cheap on Aliexpress, hard to believe, they convince enough people to be successful.
CEO of sleeping robot company says he couldn't sleep eheheheheheh
Maybe he didn't buy one ...
Nice. Enjoyed this. Thank you.
Terminator: I'll be back Ashley: Let me destroy this man's whole career.
The guy saying that qvc is better because he can explain it, while what I think he meant is that qvc Is followed by an elderly market share...
Is the "amsterdam" guy selling robots or the advertising? I am confused.
I miss your podcast Ashley! I'm glad your back making videos.
Glad you’re back
YEY ASHLEY IS BACCCCCCCCCCk!
Hi Ashley! Long time no see, welcome back!
3:45 social distancing
It's BUISNESS by the way.
great
I mean, isn't the same with youtube tech reviews? Sometimes I got a feeling that I am watching a long commercial
Definitely not. ROlabel techies mostly overhype products because otherwise folks won't send them more
No, because they're not live and one take.
Yo what is this channel? When did i sub to this? Are these people broke?
What
The secret is you get to have the undivided attention from gullible people for a brief moment. People don't spend attention on ads during scrolling.
@harrymolyneux OP is the type of Big IQ person who thinks he’s immune to psychological strategies that work on “normal” people. Not coincidentally, they’re usually the same type of people who succumb to it the most.
Hilariously inaccurate. How do you think Facebook is so big? They sell ads. Do you think they got that big because their ads don’t sell get peoples attention? Source: I’ve spent thousands of dollars on Facebook ads
Ashley is BACK!!!!!
There isn’t a perfect solution - of course - but it has to come from those who watch and listen first. People have to comment on what’s happening and begin a discussion and then show what they value with their time/money. I don’t think that Ashley was going to far or pushing a narrative BUT I think the point was to present info and let people(like us here in these comments) think about what this type of platforming really means for society and the spread of info.
@Michael Pruett Who the heck believes anything Jones says? It's obvious to any sane person that he is comical even if he doesn't think so. What I'm against is to demand that Joe or any other popular figure to never invite anyone because they have different way of viewing things. Now I'm not talking about Jones specifically (I think he is way off on many things) but what I fear is, HOW do we set a line on what's ok and not? WHO sets that line? BASED on what? I would rather have a mostly free land of expression than a restrictive one where the restrictions are impossible to set fairly.
@Waves- I just re-read that article and I am not sure what point you are trying to make. Do you disagree with Ashely’s points about Jones? Or do you think the article is poorly written? What issues do you have with it? I would say it points our truths about the JRE episode with Jones and also provides broader context about the men with relation to politics/censorship/conspiracies/celebrity- Over all it seems like a straight forward facts based article.
I liked her but man that Joe Rogan article she recently wrote made me yikes 🤮.
